Yacs is used to support large and dynamic web sites and, as such, it provides a rich set of options to manage access control rules. This paper documents these options and gives some practical examples that you can use out-of-the-box. Additional options can be used to tune yacs behavior to your very particular needs, yet these are not documented here (e.g., draft-review-publish workflow)

Wanted to put it into YACS. I thought, "Great - the import feature!". Couldn't get CSV to cooperate (I just don't understand how it works yet). But this XML page seemed to be the answer.

So, I converted each entry into an appropriate XML file. The whole article on one Excel line, including a search button ... suite

To achieve this, you will have to upload some Flash video file (with extension .flv) to your server.

Then, in the page where you want it to be displayed, type the code [flash=id, width, height], where id designates the file uploaded previously, and width, height set panel size.

YACS will then automatically use a small FLV player which is, actually, a small piece of Flash software. Enjoy!

In YACS page rating has to be activated explicitly, and this is done at the section level.

There are at least two different ways to make a section support page rating:
- ask the Content Assistant to create a new section featuring original work
- or edit an existing section and add the keyword ‘with_page_rating’ to the Options field

Aside of the several sections used to post articles on this site, and of the search engine based on full-text indexation we already have, the categories tree is a very handy mean to navigate among all these pages. Years ago Yahoo! built its success on a manual classification of pages.

Of course, we are supporting such sweating efforts at YetAnotherCommunitySystem.

But we also have improved the classification process thanks to the search engine. Search and click, that is all that is necessary to expand our categories tree

Did you know that PHP is able to generate Flash objects, through the Ming extension? To develop YACS we have reused sample code provided with some Ming tutorial, and have linked this to the table of articles in the database.

The result is a nice animation that outlines most recent published articles.

And each time a new article will be added to your site, YACS will proudly flag its title at the home page. Isn't it a cool feature?
